Satellite Images Show Intense Thunderstorm Activity in Area Where AirAsia Flight Lost Contact

As I’m writing this, the search for AirAsia Flight QZ8501 has been suspended for the night. The Airbus 320-200 aircraft took off from Surabaya, Indonesia with 162 people on board at 5.27 a.m. local time on Sunday, and then lost contact with air traffic controllers about two hours later.
