I was in my back yard with 3 friends around 11pm in tempe, az facing south when my fiancee and i spotted a bright gold light moving west at 45 degrees. we pointed our friends in the westerly direction and said, “it’s the iss!” our friends hand never seen it before. though i recall the iss being more white-light in color, not gold. i believe the object had the same speed of a satellite/iss. we looked for what was a total of 8 to 10 seconds when the gold light went dark abruptly then reappeared as a dull blue white light like an aircraft beacon, which blinked continuously light to dark in half-second intervals. i saw the light blink on and off continuously until it was lost in the horizon. this object was so far away there was no sound to be heard.
i was very surprised, excited and astonished by this having never seen this phenomenon occur before. i have watched numerous videos of the space shuttle re-entry and this was very nearly the same experience–a glowing sphere that becomes a consistent white light glowing from the heat of re-entry. only this object blinked and no shape of the object itself could be seen.
though i have no evidence of this (due to it’s great distance from us), i strongly believe it was descending and headed in the direction of edwards air force base. looking at a map, i would estimate it’s trajectory would lead it to the mohave desert/edwards.
