Alien Highway, No 2nd Season. – Chuck Zukowski UFO/Paranormal Investigations

I wasn’t looking forward to writing the possibility of this blog but, it was a great ride while it lasted. It appears we came up short with Travel Channel’s specific target audience, so the plug was pulled on an Alien Highway Season 2.

The email sent to me from Discovery Operations Talent Coordinator said, “.. we’re not bringing back Alien Highway, we’re disappointed because we love the show and hoped the genre resonated more with the current audience ..”

Travel clarified with Heather Taddy saying they didn’t have the right audience for the UFO/mystery shows.

Well, it is what it is, we didn’t capture Travel Channel’s specific targeted audience.

I appreciate what Travel Channel has done for me, giving me a full season letting me bring my investigations to the public is a dream come true, and so I thank them for that.

But just like buying a good looking shirt or pants, sometimes when you get home and try them on, it‘s just not a good fit. This appears to be the case with Travel Channel, they’re not a good fit for me. The particular type of  audience they target appears not to be interested in the real UFO Field Investigation type shows, which are boots on the ground like mine.

So at this time I’ll just try to trade in what doesn’t fit, for what does fit, by focusing on those channels whose target audiences are more in tune to what I do.

In 2017 news was released that the Pentagon was funding UFO research and investigations. Also military pilots are now speaking out about their own military encounters, and this week in the news, “The Navy acknowledged for the first time last week that ‘unidentified aerial phenomena’ shown in widely-disseminated videos are real!” It appears this could be the first stage of an UFO/Alien Disclosure.

Think about it, the possibility that aliens are visiting this planet is huge, and when undeniable physical evidence is found confirming this, life as we know it will change on this planet.

I want to be part of this.

As for the show, the overall numbers were more of a success and not a failure, and the responses I have received from viewers all over the world have confirmed that. So, a BIG thank you to everyone who enjoyed watching Alien Highway, because we enjoyed doing it.

The Rating Numbers:

This info came from the production company:

The first episode was a great start with men 25-54, and the show opened with +15% above the Travel Channel original series average and among the best originals on Travel Wednesday nights within the past 12 months (trailing on Mysteries at the Museum and its lead in that night, UFOs: the Lost Evidence.) The episode built nicely from its lead in with women 25-54 up +9% from UFOs: The Lost Evidence with that demo.

In terms of total viewers 2+L+SD, Alien Highway abducted 588K P2+, a very nice =34% above the Travel Channel original series average in the past year and only -5% below the UFOs: The Lost Evidence lead in a stellar 95% audience retention.

The Ratings in General:

We were pretty solid in the ratings polled, with an overall average of a half a million. A lot of TV shows have been green-lit for another season with lower than those numbers, so they weren’t too bad.

So who was our key audience based on various ratings?

Our key demo people 25-54 were about average. We’re above average in men 25-54 by 25 percent which is awesome and also with ladies age 30 and below, but that put us back to average. Still not too bad with a wide range age group.

We did get some good Internet shout outs that was pretty awesome.

List:
– July 11th, Alien Highway was listed on Wrap.com for top picks on extraterrestrial enthusiasts. “The Top 10 TV Shows That Believe in Aliens, From ‘Project Blue Book’ to ‘UFOs.”
– July 19th, Parade.com listed Alien Highway in “What to Watch” TV shows for the following week.
– July 26th, Channel Guide Magazine listed Alien Highway as “TV’s Best Bets for the following week.”

The one thing I was disappointed with Travel Channel was the lack of advertising on their channel. They only advertised on their Facebook and Twitter page on the day each episode was to air. Only those who frequent those sites knew about Alien Highway and what we were about. This should have been a red-flag for me now seeing their target audience is more involved with the Millennial Generation.

Strange way of promoting a new show, and a lot different than other shows I’ve been on, but then again, I don’t know how these channels run their business. Each one appears to run differently based on their own marketing strategies, their sponsors, who they want to target, and their budget.

At the end of this blog I posted our electronic polled ratings. We averaged about 530 thousand viewers per episode. Out of the Top 150 shows aired that day, we were under 92 for 7 episodes, under the top 50 for 1 episode and maxed out at 107 for one episode which aired the same night as the Democratic Debate. For the 150 cable shows rated, we averaged 73.25 which put us in the lower half of the top 150 for our season.

I wonder if the higher 76 shows were all renewed? ha ha

I’d like to thank all the viewers and all the wonderful emails I received, it told me we were on track to what the related public wanted to see. I would do it all over again even knowing we had only one season. Thank you Thank you.

Like Arnold Schwarzenegger once said,  “I’ll be back” ( Which means if any other production company reads this blog, then I’m available. ha ha )
